This Thursday will be the first of our discussion series on life in academia.

Former UCSC student Mark Mozena will lead an informal discussion about the intersection between astronomy, the federal government, and science policy. He will talk about the federal budget for science and astronomy, the need for astronomers and academics to contact and effectively engage with Congress, and career/fellowship opportunities for astronomers in the government and the world of science policy.

Mark earned his PhD in astronomy here at UCSC in 2013. He is currently a AAAS Science & Technology Congressional Policy Fellow working in DC for Congressman Michael Honda (San Jose).
